Committed time and engagement

This course is designed to be completed in six consecutive weeks. Once enrolled, a learner completes the modules in sequence to earn a Certificate. The estimated time to complete lessons and recommended course work:

- Must have access to a device – desktop or laptop (preferred), mobile device (supported)

- All devices require speakers

- Supported web browsers - Chrome and Firefox (preferred), Safari and Edge (supported)

- One can complete a system check to ensure that your system is properly configured.

Application – In collaboration as colleagues, we ask you to pledge to apply what you have learned to your classroom instruction. TTT values underserved educators for the sake of the next generation.

For an individual learner to earn a Certificate, one must earn a total of six badges. To earn one badge, a learner must receive 100% on the assessment at the end of each of the six modules. Learners are given multiple opportunities to review content and improve their scores. If a learner earns a Certificate, one may complete a "Course Approval" form to seek credit for professional development points or government licensures.

Module 1 Objectives - Role of the Teacher

Using the history of educational theory, the learner will be able to explain how a “more knowledgeable other” guides a student.
The learner will be able to analyze the three steps within the method of the gradual release of responsibility.
The learner will be able to produce and self-assess a think aloud.
The learner will be able to choose one of the four direct instruction techniques to apply during direct instruction.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about the role of the teacher.

Module 2 Objectives - Planning a School Day

The learner will be able to produce a student schedule.
The learner will be able to write morning messages.
The learner will be able to write a direct instruction lesson plan with an objective, materials and instructions that incorporate the elements of a direct instruction lesson plan.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about the planning a school day.

Module 3 Objectives - Multiple Intelligences

The learner will be able to analyze the seven multiple intelligences of Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
The learner will be able to identify students who demonstrate each of the multiple intelligences.
The learner will be able to express how students will benefit from guided practice activities that incorporate the multiple intelligences.
The learner will be able to write a guided practice lesson plan that guides students to work together and practice.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about intelligence.

Module 4 Objectives - Differentiating Instruction

The learner will be able to analyze three paths to master a lesson plan objective.
The learner will be able to plan for questions to ask pairs during guided practice.
The learner will be able to plan for ways to guide and direct small groups of students during guided practice.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about teaching students with different levels of understanding.

Module 5 Objectives - Bloom's Taxonomy

The learner will be able to analyze the six levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.
The learner will be able to identify questions that can be asked during direct instruction.
The learner will be able to identify action verbs that can be used to write lesson plan objectives.
The learner will be able to write an independent practice lesson plan that includes a task for students to demonstrate mastery.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about deepening a student's thinking.

Module 6 Objectives - Assessment

The learner will be able to examine how to improve how to check for understanding during direct instruction.
The learner will be able to demonstrate knowledge on a self-evaluation during guided practice.
The learner will be able to demonstrate knowledge on a teacher checklist during independent practice.
The learner will be able to write a summative assessment.
The learner will be able to summarize what was learned about assessment.

Course Description

This course is designed for current and future teachers who desire to improve their practice in classroom instruction. The course contains six modules:

Module 1: Role of the Teacher

This module explores the history of educational theory. The importance of the role of the teacher is introduced within the zone of proximal development. The module provides a thorough introduction to an effective method of instruction, the gradual release of responsibility. This module explains that an effective teacher uses a plan for curriculum that includes a weekly plan and daily schedule. The module teaches about routines such as student schedules and morning messages. It provides a deep dive into the elements of a direct instruction lesson plan. Read more...

This module provides definitions and characteristics of the seven multiple intelligences suggested by Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Module 5: Bloom’s Taxonomy

This module introduces Benjamin Bloom’s Taxonomy by investigating its six levels of thinking. It suggests that Bloom’s Taxonomy is useful to classroom instruction to ask questions of students and to write lesson plan objectives. This module explores formative assessment used throughout the three steps of the gradual release of responsibility. Learners review ways to check for understanding during direct instruction. They learn how students can self-evaluate during guided practice. And they investigate a teacher checklist during independent practice.
